ARTISTS STATEMENT
My creative practice revolves around my previous experience in nursing, and mainly focuses on health and social welfare. I use contemporary sculpture materials to create installations that are about human behaviour, emotions and health. The sheer scope of materials that can be used in contemporary sculpture excites me and each new body of work is an exciting journey of exploration to give visual meaning to topics. The aim of my work is to highlight issues that many individuals may find difficult to communicate, or hidden truths. Through the artwork I attempt to speak the unspoken, to encourage the viewer to question, debate, feel emotion and perhaps grasp the enormity of human suffering. My topics are informed by research into current issues in health and social care and my own personal working experience. The subject matter and concept for each body of work determines what materials I use to convey the meaning in a compassionate but thought provoking way. |
